Sr. Manager, Design Systems

Insight Global is seeking a Sr. Manager, Design Systems specialized in owning strategy and delivery for Design Systems for a Big 5 Canadian Banking client. This will be a 12 month contract role with possibility of conversion to FTE. The successful candidate will:

• Oversee and maintain Figma libraries
Manage 15+ distinct Figma libraries, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and scalability across all components. Prioritize updates and enhancements based on business needs and design team feedback.
• Documentation and Knowledge Management
Own and maintain design system documentation in ZeroHeight, ensuring guidelines, usage patterns, and component specifications are clear, accessible, and up-to-date.
• Governance and Standards
Establish and enforce governance frameworks for component usage, version control, and contribution processes across 20+ design teams. Define ground rules for adoption and compliance.
• Change Management for Components
Develop strategies to manage complexity when updating components that impact multiple teams. Implement processes for versioning, communication, and migration to minimize disruption.
• Modernization Initiatives
Lead efforts to modernize the visual language, ensuring alignment with brand evolution, accessibility standards, and emerging design trends.
• Consensus Building & Advocacy
Act as a design system evangelist, driving alignment across stakeholders, influencing leadership, and fostering buy-in for system-wide initiatives.
• AI & Emerging Technology Integration
Pilot Figma AI capabilities with design teams, test generative design workflows, and create guidelines for responsible and effective usage. Explore opportunities for AI-driven component generation and automation.
• Relationship Management
Build strong partnerships with product, engineering, and design leadership to ensure the design system meets cross-functional needs and scales effectively.
• Special Projects & Exploratory Work
Lead governance-related projects, exploratory initiatives in generative design, and research emerging tools and methodologies to future-proof the design system.
• System Thinking & Strategic Planning
Apply systems thinking to anticipate downstream impacts of design decisions, ensuring holistic solutions that balance flexibility with consistency.
• Strategy
Working with Director to strategize team, initiatives and roadmaps for design system

• 8+ years of design experience
• 5+ years of design systems experience
• Experiencing mentoring and overseeing the work of designers
• Experience leading strategic initiatives within design and design systems
• Experience working on design systems, design patterns, and documentation
• Prototyping experience
• Excellent proficiency with Figma
○ (including experience with latest design system features in Figma: variables, Booleans, variants, tokens, modes, responsive and interactive components, Dev Mode)
• Experience leveraging AI in design/design systems
• Strong systems thinker
• Strong working knowledge of UX/UI principles and best practices, user-centered design, design thinking, and designing for accessibility
• Strong working knowledge of responsive design and understand the technical constraints
• Great organization and communication skills
• Detail-oriented and strive for pixel perfect design delivery

• Zeroheight (for documentation)
• Illustration, interaction and motion design skills
• Experience using front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
• Experience integration analytics and/or AI into design systems
• Figma Analytics, Power BI
• Previous experience in visual design, UI design/development, graphic design
