Job Description
Insight Global is hiring a Controller for one of our hedge fund clients. This is a full-time, onsite role (5 days/week) based in Toronto. The Controller will be responsible for managing the books of record, supporting fund valuations, and overseeing the financial operations related to both the management company and underlying portfolio companies.
This role involves evaluating private investments, managing capital activity across multiple LPs, and ensuring accurate reporting around cash flow, ownership, and performance. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and confident working in a fast-paced environment where they’ll be expected to take ownership of core accounting processes and deliver accurate, timely financial information.

Required Skills & Experience
• 5+ years of experience in accounting, with strong exposure to fund accounting
• CPA designation
• Proficient in QuickBooks and Excel (Excel skills will be tested)
• Experience maintaining books of record and evaluating private entities
• Knowledge of capital call mechanics, LP ownership structures, loan allocations, and waterfall distributions
• Understanding of cash flow, fund allocation, and preparation of financial statements
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage schedules, track payments, and identify variances across operating businesses
• Clear and professional communication skills
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience at a hedge fund or private equity firm
• Exposure to NAV calculations and fund performance modeling
• Experience with portfolio management systems
• Background in industries such as pharma, shipping, or other operating businesses backed by private capital
• Additional finance or accounting certifications
