Job Description
This role sits within BMO’s Treasury & Payment Solutions (TPS) group and focuses on advancing the bank’s commercial payments capabilities through ISO 20022 modernization, product innovation, and delivery of next‑generation payment experiences. The Business Analyst will work across product, technology, operations, and compliance teams to translate business needs into actionable requirements that shape BMO’s payment products and platforms.
Key Responsibilities
ISO 20022 Analysis — Lead end‑to‑end analysis of ISO 20022 payment messages (pain, pacs, camt), ensuring alignment with industry standards, regulatory expectations, and BMO’s payment modernization roadmap.
Requirements Development — Gather, document, and validate business and functional requirements for new payment capabilities, enhancements, and product innovations.
Payment Product Innovation — Support ideation, feasibility assessment, and delivery of new commercial payment products, including real‑time payments, enhanced remittance, and enriched data services.
Stakeholder Collaboration — Partner with Product Owners, Technology, Operations, Compliance, and external vendors to ensure solutions meet business objectives and customer needs.
Process & Data Mapping — Create detailed process flows, data models, and message maps for payment journeys, including initiation, processing, exception handling, and reporting.
Testing & Validation — Support SIT/UAT test planning, execution, and defect triage for ISO 20022 and payment platform changes.
Market & Regulatory Research — Monitor industry developments (Payments Canada modernization, RTR, SWIFT CBPR+, FedNow, cross‑border standards) and translate impacts into actionable insights.
Operational Readiness — Contribute to training materials, operational procedures, and change‑management activities for new payment capabilities.

5+ years as a Business Analyst in payments, commercial banking, or financial services.
Deep expertise in ISO 20022 message structures, mapping, and implementation.
Strong understanding of payment rails: wires, ACH/EFT, SWIFT, RTR/real‑time payments, cross‑border flows.
Experience working in Agile environments with Product Owners and Scrum teams.
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business requirements.
Proficiency with tools such as Visio, Confluence, Jira, Swagger, or similar.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem‑solving skills.
