Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Lead Project Manager (Grid Automation) for a top energy/utility technology client. This individual will oversee a portfolio of grid automation projects—ranging from protection relays and substation/distribution automation to monitoring/diagnostics and systems & services—ensuring safe, high-quality delivery that meets schedule, scope, and financial targets. The ideal candidate is confident acting as the primary customer-facing lead, excels at cross-functional coordination with engineering, finance, procurement, and contract teams, and brings a proactive approach to risk management, forecasting, and governance. Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree (accredited university/college)
• 5+ years’ experience in electricity grid engineering or project management
• Project management experience (utility sector strongly preferred)
• Knowledge of Digital Substation, Protection & Control, Protection Relays, Substation/Distribution Automation
• Ability/willingness to travel up to 20% across North America
Must be able to travel to both the US and Canada
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• PMP certification
• Engineering degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering)
• Experience managing customer-facing projects in Transmission, Distribution, and/or Industrial markets
• Knowledge of Digital Substation, Protection & Control, Protection Relays, Substation/Distribution Automation
• Experience in monitoring/diagnostics and systems & services project portfolios
• Strong contract/commercial exposure (contractual terms, contract execution)
• Experience working in multicultural environments (expatriate experience preferred)
• Strong influencing/negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Proficiency with project management tools, procedures, and governance frameworks
