Job Description

The Technical Director for Silicone Injection Molding will lead all technical aspects of the silicone molding operation, including process development, tooling design, materials engineering, and new technical development. This leadership role ensures that silicone molding operations meet high standards of precision, reliability, and efficiency, aligning with customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Tooling & Equipment:
o Collaborate with toolmakers and vendors to design and procure high-precision silicone molds.
o Oversee the commissioning and maintenance of molding machines and auxiliary equipment.
Technical Leadership:
o Oversee the design, development, and optimization of LSR (Liquid Silicone Rubber) and HCR (High Consistency Rubber) injection molding processes.
o Lead technical teams in troubleshooting process issues, improving cycle times, and enhancing product quality.
o Serve as the technical authority for silicone molding and provide guidance on material selection and tooling design.
Process Development:
o Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for molding processes.
o Conduct DOE (Design of Experiments) and statistical analysis to validate new tools and materials.
o Implement automation and advanced manufacturing techniques where applicable.
Quality & Compliance:
o Ensure molded products meet or exceed regulatory and customer specifications.
o Work closely with QA/RA teams on validation protocols, CAPAs, and root cause analyses.
o Support ISO, FDA (if medical devices), and other regulatory audits.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
o Interface with R&D, Sales, and Production teams to align project goals and deliverables.
o Partner with supply chain and procurement to qualify new materials and vendors.
Team Management:
o Lead, mentor, and develop a team of process engineers, tooling experts, and technicians.
o Drive continuous improvement culture and support professional development.

Required Skills & Experience

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
o 10+ years of experience in silicone injection molding, with 5+ years in a leadership or technical management role.
o Strong expertise in LSR/HCR molding, tool design, and process optimization.
Skills:
o Proficient with injection molding machinery (e.g., Arburg, Engel), mold design software (e.g., SolidWorks, Moldflow).
o Deep understanding of silicone material properties, mold tooling, and thermodynamics of molding processes.
o Familiar with ISO 13485, GMP, and FDA requirements (for medical/healthcare applications).

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in medical device manufacturing or automotive silicone parts.
Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent process improvement training.
Project management experience with cross-functional teams.
