Job Description
Lead controls engineering efforts from project kickoff through final commissioning
Design and develop FMS/BMS solutions that meet customer requirements and project budgets
Work with equipment suppliers and integration partners to develop controls architectures and control schemes
Create and review:
System designs
Control narratives
Construction documents
Bills of Materials
Manage external controls integration firms through:
Schematic Design (SD)
Detailed Design (DD)
Construction Drawings (CD)
Collaborate with:
Mechanical engineers
Electrical engineers
Architects
General contractors
Vendors
Internal Vertiv business units
Specify BMS and controls equipment for data center and critical facility projects
Review and approve controls submittals
Provide technical support for RFIs and construction-related questions
Oversee quality and integration of FMS/BMS systems
Support onsite commissioning, startup, testing, and troubleshooting
Travel to project sites to conduct:
Site reviews
Engineering evaluations
Controls audits
Startup support
Ensure systems comply with customer requirements, building codes, and performance expectations
Develop creative solutions to customer challenges while maintaining schedule, cost, and quality objectives

Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent controls engineering experience)
4+ years of Controls Engineering experience
Experience designing control systems utilizing PLCs, relays, and field control devices
Knowledge of Ethernet and industrial communication protocols:
Modbus
SNMP
TCP/IP
RS-485
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit
Experience reading and interpreting:
Construction drawings
Equipment specifications
Customer requirements/specifications
Microsoft Office proficiency
Experience supporting construction, commissioning, startup, and system validation activities
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong problem-solving and leadership skills
Proven project management experience
Ability to work with cross-functional teams, vendors, contractors, and integration partners
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Professional Engineer (PE) License
Data center controls, critical infrastructure, or mission-critical facility experience
Experience generating Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Experience with FMS/BMS (Facility Management System / Building Management System) design, integration, installation, and commissioning working with:
General contractors
Architects
Commissioning teams
Third-party controls integrators
Knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes related to controls and BMS systems
Experience performing:
FMS/BMS audits
Site assessments
Startup support
Integration quality control
Experience researching and implementing new technologies and construction methods
Ability to develop innovative, cost-saving design solutions without impacting reliability or quality
Experience supporting permitting and AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) approval processes
