A DoD client in the Warner Robins, GA area is seeking a Metallurgical Lab Technician to oversee the lab that directly supports their customer. This includes setting up, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, consumable inventory and procurement, preparing and tracking material samples, and adhering to lab and equipment guidelines. The successful candidate will understand materials testing equipment and testing techniques per ISO and ASTM Standards. Conduct the experiments and collect data as required with general or minimal supervision. Most of the work will support government customers, but some industry partners will be supported as well.

o Metallurgical sample preparations and examinations including evaluating as received specimens to determine if metallography is appropriate, sectioning specimens using Allied High Tech TechCut 4X and 5X, mounting specimens via Allied High Tech TechPress 3x hot press and using epoxy/acrylic (cold) resin, utilization of vacuum impregnation chamber for cold mounting technique, grinding and polishing by hand and using an Buehler AutoMet 250 automated polishing device, serializing all mounted specimens and maintaining log for traceability, acid etching metal specimens to reveal grain boundaries, knowledge of preparation techniques beyond parameter recipes written in ASTM or other texts.
o Utilize Nikon MA-200 high magnification microscope for metallographically prepared specimens and Keyence VR-6200 3D Optical Profilometer for imaging specimens for measurements such as surface roughness, step heights, lengths, etc.
o Experience using Thermo-Fisher Axia ChemiSEM scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to evaluate samples for chemical composition and surface features.
o Rockwell hardness testing using Wilson 574T and Micro Indentation hardness testing using Wilson VH1202.
o Prepare and perform tensile testing using Mark-10 Model F-1505 tensile tester, according to associated standards.
o Perform Positive Material Identification (PMI) and chemical measurements using an Olympus Vanta X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analyzer.
o Lab management such as equipment calibration and maintaining all logs.
