Job Description
A client of Insight Global is seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Backend Developer to help build a brand-new cloud-native integration platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing and developing scalable backend services, APIs, event-driven integrations, and distributed systems using modern Java technologies. The environment is being built from the ground up, making this an excellent opportunity for engineers who enjoy greenfield development, cloud-native architecture, and solving complex integration challenges across enterprise systems. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Java microservices, Kafka-based event architectures, MongoDB, and cloud-native application development on GCP.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with engineers, architects, product owners, and business stakeholders to create enterprise API and event-driven integration solutions.
Develop software in an Agile environment leveraging DevOps practices, automated testing, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
Design and implement secure, scalable, and resilient microservices deployed on Google Cloud Platform.
Build and maintain event-driven systems utilizing Kafka and asynchronous messaging patterns.
Integrate applications with MongoDB Atlas and other enterprise data platforms.
Develop automated testing strategies including unit, integration, contract, and performance testing.
Implement observability practices including centralized logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting.
Maintain and evolve existing enterprise integration assets and cloud-hosted services.
Partner with platform engineering and infrastructure teams to continuously improve deployment automation, cloud operations, security, and reliability.
Serve as a technical mentor and provide guidance on application architecture, coding standards, and cloud-native best practices.

Required Skills & Experience
7+ years of software development experience building enterprise applications and APIs.
Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Maven, Gradle, and developing RESTful APIs.
Experience building and deploying cloud-native applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Experience with Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, Cloud Monitoring, and Cloud Logging.
Experience with GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine), Kubernetes, Docker containers, and microservices architectures.
Experience with Apache Kafka or managed Kafka platforms such as Confluent Cloud.
Experience with MongoDB Atlas and NoSQL database design principles.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or equivalent.
Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or similar technologies.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, resiliency patterns, scalability, and performance optimization.

Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace, Splunk, or Datadog.
Experience developing financial services or high-volume transaction processing systems.
Experience with security best practices including OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, and Zero Trust architectures
