Job Description

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Training & Education
Deliver nutrition and culinary training to food service staff, parents, and children
Conduct workshops on cooking techniques, food safety, and wellness
Teach staff how to prepare nutritious meals that meet CACFP and Head Start standards
Promote scratch cooking and reduction of processed foods
Teach flavor enhancement using herbs, spices, citrus, and aromatics instead of excess sodium and sugar
Menu & Recipe Development
Assist with menu planning and recipe testing
Develop recipes that are nutritionally balanced and appealing to children
Train staff on standardized recipes and portion control
Recommend healthier ingredient substitutions (whole grains, healthier oils, etc.)
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure compliance with CACFP regulations and Head Start Performance Standards
Train staff on:
Production records
Recipe documentation
Food substitutions
Meal quantity tracking
Support audit readiness and documentation accuracy
Food Safety & Equipment
Train staff on food safety procedures and holding temperatures
Teach proper use and maintenance of commercial kitchen equipment
Ensure cooking practices preserve food quality and nutrient content
Educate staff on reducing food waste and preventing overcooking
Ideal Candidate is culinary educator with strong food service operations experience who can train and coach staff on healthy scratch cooking, compliance requirements, food safety, and menu development while supporting nutrition goals for children.
Hourly $30-$32hr

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Haves
Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Hospitality Management/Culinary Arts OR Culinary Arts Professional Certificate
Ohio Food Protection Manager Certification
Valid Ohio Driver's License
Experience training kitchen or food service staff
Strong knowledge of:
Scratch cooking techniques
Food safety and sanitation
Menu planning and recipe development
Nutrient retention and healthy cooking methods
CACFP regulations and Head Start Performance Standards
Experience with commercial kitchen equipment
Ability to create and deliver training programs/workshops
