Job Description

Day to Day:
We are seeking a highly experienced Substation Engineering & Construction Manager to lead the full lifecycle of high- and medium-voltage substation projects. This individual contributor role requires deep technical expertise—particularly in civil design and construction management—and strong leadership to coordinate across internal teams and external EPC partners. The ideal candidate will bring both strategic vision and hands-on execution capabilities to drive successful project delivery.
• Lead turnkey substation projects from conceptual design through commissioning and close-out.
• Manage all technical aspects including electrical, protection & control, and civil/structural systems.
• Own and oversee civil design and construction scope, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and regulations.
• Coordinate with internal engineering, sales, procurement, and project management teams.
• Oversee and manage EPC partners, reviewing engineering deliverables, procurement packages, and construction plans.
• Support site development, permitting, and field engineering during construction.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Assist in proposal development, including scope definition, technical design, and cost estimation.

Required Skills & Experience

Must Haves:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering.
• 8+ years of experience in high/medium-voltage substation design and construction.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and execute complex projects.
• Expertise in substation civil/structural design and standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC, ASCE).
• Proven experience coordinating internal teams and EPC partners across multiple engineering disciplines.
Willingness to travel locally and engage in on-site project execution.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Pluses:
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
• Experience with EPC contracting models and major utility or renewable energy clients.
• Knowledge of permitting processes, environmental regulations, and construction management.
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or PLS-CADD.
Contractor experience and a hands-on approach to field execution.
