Job Description
Day to Day:
We are seeking a Lead Engineer to join a large Automation and Electrification client in Wendell, NC. This role provides expert engineering support with minimal supervision, interpreting customer specifications to configure and support Medium Voltage Air and Gas Insulated Switchgear systems. The Lead Engineer collaborates closely with Sales and Business Development during project negotiations and provides post-order engineering support to ensure seamless product integration and commissioning.
• Provide technical expertise to support sales efforts for medium voltage switchgear solutions.
• Interpret project specifications and plans to configure products, develop proposals, and advise on lead times and pricing.
• Determine optimal bill of materials and pricing strategies based on customer requirements and market conditions.
• Design application-specific circuits and coordinate with customers for approvals and testing.
• Perform engineering calculations and analyze configurations for technical accuracy and feasibility.
• Collaborate with drafting, purchasing, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful project execution.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in product design, quality, safety, and productivity.

Required Skills & Experience
Must Haves:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 5–10 years of experience in the Utility market, preferably in Power Distribution.
• Proven experience with Medium Voltage (1kV–38kV) Air or Gas Insulated switchgear and related components (e.g., bus ducts, transformers).
• Strong understanding of protection systems, control systems, and communication protocols such as IEC 61850 and DNP.
• Willingness to travel internation and domestically up to 20% for client and manufacturing need
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Pluses:
• Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• 5+ years in utilities industry
