Job Description

Insight Global's client is looking for an Automation and Controls Engineer to join their team in Wake Forrest, NC. The client is a full-service design and build company specializing in power system design and installation. They specialize on Emergency Standby Power Systems with Engine Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) equipment, Lightning Protection and Grounding systems for various federal government projects. 10% travel is required to project locations for meetings with clients.

The Automation and Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, programming, and maintaining automated power and HVAC control systems. This role requires hands-on experience with HMIs, SCADA systems, remote sensors, PLC programming, and power system controls. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in control panel design, assembly, installation and troubleshooting, as well as strong skills in manual writing and field installation.
Responsibilities:
- Design and Development:
· Design and develop control systems; including HMIs, SCADA systems, and PLCs, to meet project requirements
· Create and implement control panel designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Programming and Configuration:
· Program and configure PLCs to control and monitor industrial processes.
· Develop and integrate SCADA systems for real-time data acquisition and process control.
- System Integration:
· Integrate remote sensors and other field devices into control systems.
· Ensure seamless communication between control systems and other facility systems.
- Installation and Commissioning:
· Oversee and perform field installations of control systems and associated equipment.
· Coordinate with other engineering teams and contractors to ensure successful system installation and commissioning.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
· Provide technical support for troubleshooting and resolving issues with control systems and field equipment.
· Perform regular maintenance and updates to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Documentation:
· Write and maintain detailed manuals, technical documentation, and system specifications.
· Document design changes, system configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Project Management:
· Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.
· Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to achieve project goals and deliverables.

Required Skills & Experience

- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field
- 6+ years of experience in automation and controls engineering
- Hands-on experience in HMIs, SCADA, PLC programming, and power system controls
- Proficiency in control panel design, assembly, and installation
- Strong knowledge of remote sensors and their integration into control systems
- Experience in writing technical manuals and documentation
- Relevant certifications in automation and controls (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) are a plus
- Proficiency in Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Control Expert Small V16, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Machine Expert Basic, and Vijeo Designer 6.3
- Knowledge of MS Office, Project and AutoCAD required
- Working knowledge of UL, NEMA, OSHA and NEC standards
- Ability to travel 10%
- Ability to make independent decisions in planning, organizing, and coordinating to develop solutions to complex problems
