Position Summary
Our client, a leading energy and EPC organization, is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to support the design and execution of high-voltage substation projects. This individual will be responsible for developing and reviewing primary substation designs, supporting EPC project execution, and collaborating with engineering, project management, procurement, and construction teams to deliver quality projects on schedule.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with AIS and/or GIS substations, primary electrical design, and EPC project execution.
Responsibilities
• Develop electromechanical design criteria and conceptual layouts for AIS and GIS substations.
• Lead and review general arrangement, grounding, trench, and conduit designs.
• Perform and review engineering calculations including grounding, cable ampacity, lightning protection, illumination, and auxiliary load studies.
• Develop equipment specifications, bills of material, and engineering execution plans.
• Support and lead 3D design efforts for proposals and project execution.
• Review vendor and manufacturer drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate with engineering, procurement, project management, and construction teams throughout project execution.
• Identify and resolve technical issues to support project schedules and deliverables.
• Participate in customer meetings and provide technical support during project planning and execution.

Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• 7+ years of experience in substation engineering with a focus on primary electrical design.
• Experience with AIS and/or GIS substations.
○ Working knowledge of substation equipment used in transmission and utility projects.
• Experience performing and reviewing substation engineering calculations and design packages.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
• Strong understanding of EPC project execution.
• Ability to coordinate across engineering, construction, procurement, and project management teams.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically.
• Professional Engineering (PE) License.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience with ANSI/IEEE standards.
• Knowledge of IEC standards.
• Experience with Siemens NX and/or Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience supporting large-scale utility, transmission, or EPC substation projects.
