Job Overview:
Insight Global is seeking a Senior Robotics Electrical Engineer for a top advanced research and manufacturing technology client. This individual will join a multi disciplinary robotics team developing advanced robotic systems for manufacturing and field services. The role blends hands on system design and build work with technical leadership, applied research, and cross functional collaboration, taking innovative automation concepts from early research through prototype, pilot, and deployment stages.
Day-to-Day:
• Conduct applied research in robotics, controls, and system design
• Design, build, and deploy robotic control and perception systems
• Define electrical and system architectures for robotic platforms
• Integrate motors, sensors, cameras, compute, and networking hardware
• Perform hardware/software commissioning, diagnostics, and system optimization
• Build and validate prototypes and pilot deployments
• Troubleshoot system performance issues and productionize solutions
• Lead technical planning, reviews, milestones, and risk mitigation
• Partner with manufacturing and field services teams to translate requirements into solutions
• Prepare technical reports and present results and recommendations to leadership
• Contribute to IP strategy and technology scouting initiatives

Required Skills & Experience
• PhD in Electrical Engineering (or related) with 3+ years’ experience OR MS with 5+ years’ experience in robotics/controls
• Hands-on robotic system design and implementation experience
• Electrical system and circuit design experience including power distribution, safety, and communications
• Experience with electrical actuation and control of robotic systems
• Strong background in control and optimization (real-time control preferred)
• PLC programming experience and familiarity with industrial safety standards
• PCB design and testing experience (SMD, reflow, solder rework)
• Hands-on cable creation and termination (crimping, connectorizing, strain relief)
• Experience selecting and integrating motors, drives, sensors, cameras/lighting, compute, and networking
• Experience working with AC and DC circuits up to 500V
• Proficiency in two or more of the following:
• ROS/ROS 2, NVIDIA Isaac, Gazebo
• C/C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink
• Industrial robot controllers (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, UR)
• Vision/AI frameworks (OpenCV, PCL, PyTorch, TensorFlow)
• Electrical design tools (Altium, KiCad)
• Industrial controls platforms (Rockwell/Allen Bradley, Siemens)
• Willingness to work onsite in Niskayuna, NY and travel as needed
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Principal Investigator experience on multi million dollar programs
• Product development experience with customer-facing technologies
• Electromechanical system design background
• Publications and/or patents in robotics, controls, AI, or simulation
• Deep experience with ROS 2, NVIDIA Isaac, or digital twin environments
• Industrial robotics experience in manufacturing or field services automation
• Machine learning experience for robotic perception and control
• Proven experience leading technical teams, schedules, milestones, and budgets
• Experience presenting to senior leadership
