Job Overview:
Insight Global is seeking a Senior Robotics & Autonomous Systems Engineer for a leading advanced research organization. This role focuses on defining and executing strategic R&D programs in robotics and autonomy, with direct impact on next-generation industrial and field-deployed systems. The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on technical expertise with leadership ability, driving innovative robotic technologies from concept through validation while collaborating closely with internal business teams, research partners, and external customers.
Day-to-Day:
• Develop strategic robotics and autonomy technology concepts aligned with business needs
• Design, analyze, integrate, and test electromechanical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
• Lead projects, proposals, and relationship-building efforts with internal and external partners
• Drive architecture, design, packaging, validation, and implementation of robotic systems
• Collaborate with internal teams and external thought leaders across the robotics stack
• Participate hands-on in design, development, integration, and testing activities
• Support technology demonstrations, pilots, and validations in lab and field environments
• Communicate progress, results, and recommendations to senior leadership

Required Skills & Experience
• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with robotics system design experience
OR MS with 3+ years
OR BS with 5+ years of relevant robotics experience
• Strong track record executing R&D or advanced engineering programs
• Significant experience in electromechanical system design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting
• Experience designing and integrating actuators, sensors, controllers, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
• Experience integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components into reliable systems
• Experience leading or organizing field and production environment technology validations/demos
• Hands-on experience with soft robotic systems and actuators
• Strong mechanical design experience using SolidWorks
• Experience leading technical teams toward novel technology validation
• Programming experience in C, C++, and/or Python
• Experience with CAD modeling
• Experience with motion/path planning, kinematics, dynamics, perception, and robotic simulation
• Experience with computer vision and machine learning
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Experience with soil mechanics, field soil measurements, and actuator–soil interaction modeling
• Experience working with government stakeholders
• Proficiency with system modeling tools (Simscape, Adams, MapleSim, MATLAB)
• Ability to translate high-level customer needs into technical development strategies
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills
• Self-starter with an innovative mindset and ability to work in fast-paced R&D environments
