Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Lead Power Electronics Research Engineer for a top energy technology client. This candidate will play a critical role in advancing next-generation electrification, renewable energy, and power generation technologies. The ideal engineer will lead cutting-edge research efforts focused on power electronics, grid integration, advanced controls, and electrical system design. Responsibilities include developing simulation models, designing and testing power conversion hardware, implementing sophisticated control algorithms, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to bring innovative technologies from concept to reality. Day-to-Day:
• Conduct research in power electronics, including modeling, simulation, design, and testing
• Simulate and analyze power converters, transformers, filters, grid systems, and electromechanical systems
• Develop control, monitoring, and diagnostic algorithms for power conversion systems
• Implement advanced electrical system controls in hardware environments
• Perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
• Lead research and development programs to achieve business objectives
• Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies
• Collaborate with product engineers and research teams to define requirements
• Present technical findings to business stakeholders and industry conferences
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget
• Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced engineers
• Develop innovative solutions for electrification, renewables, and power generation applications

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Haves:
• PhD in Power Electronics or related field with 5+ years of experience OR Master's degree with 7+ years of relevant industry experience
• Advanced technology development experience designing, building, and testing power electronics and controls
• Strong expertise in simulation and analysis of electrical and electromechanical systems
• Hands-on power electronics hardware design, build, and experimental testing experience
• Experience with electrical systems, power electronic converters, grid integration, and power converter controls
• Experience with high-frequency, high-voltage, and high-power applications
• Renewable energy systems experience
• Strong communication, presentation, and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Plusses:
• Experience with PLECS, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar simulation platforms
• FPGA development experience
• PCB design experience
• Power hardware development and testing expertise
• HVDC systems experience
• C++ programming experience
• Visual Studio experience
• Signal processing knowledge
• Strong project management and program execution experience
• Experience presenting research at technical conferences
