Job Description
The client's Safe Haven Shelter and Transitional Foster Care Program is a 24-hour program that serves unaccompanied children (UCs) in immigration custody who are awaiting release to their sponsors. The Lead Medical Coordinator is responsible for the oversight, coordination and provision of medical and mental health care of the children in the program including initial medical examinations, screening for infectious diseases, dental screening when applicable, and immunizations while providing hands-on triaging support for children on a day-to-day basis. The Lead Medical Coordinator is classified as an essential worker, and as such accepts responsibility for the completion of their critical services to clients, on site, even during times of emergency. These include, but are not limited to, emergencies caused by weather, nationwide pandemics, civil unrest, and domestic threats. Duties include the below:
-Oversight of Safe Haven’s health services as well as coordinating the provision of timely, appropriate health services for children in care.
-Ensure the coordination of a complete medical examination, including a screening for infectious diseases, as required by ORR within 48 hours of arrival.
-Provide appropriate staff and foster parent training on medical, dental, medication administration and public health topics relevant to pediatric, adolescent, and migrant health.
-Develop and maintain policies and procedures for confidential health record management.
-Provide triaging of health concerns, medical emergency response, environmental health and safety, and post-release health care planning/care coordination.
-Oversee the administration of medication, and administer medication, as needed..
-Monitor the provision of medical care for children in UAC program as well as document all follow-up recommendations and services.
-Ensure that all entering female UAC will undergo pregnancy screening and family planning services in accordance with ORR policy.
-Communicate all special diets. allergies and medication regimens for UAC to the appropriate party, monitoring and facilitating medication administration.
-Monitor referrals for specialty care, dental care, and mental health services, including ensuring immunization provision according to CDC catch-up schedule.
-Obtain and maintain up to date medicals, dentals when applicable, and prescriptions on all medical records.
-Provide billing support to new medical, dental and mental health providers to ensure timely submission of billing and receipt of payment.
-Serve as a liaison with medical, dental, mental health, and pharmacy providers and document interactions for appropriate reporting to ORR.
-Research and develop new partnerships within the community.
-Work in collaboration with other departments, including but not limited to the Case Management Team, Clinical Team, Foster Parent Team, Education Team, CCW Team and Quality Assurance Team, to ensure the coordination of care and program functioning.
-Provide supervision and support the professional development of the Medical Coordinators and RNs via individual supervision, team meetings and in-house training.
-Complete Payroll Change Notices for Nurse and Medical Coordinators’ changes, separations, and new hires.
Review resumes, conduct interviews and complete hiring packages for Nurses and Medical Coordinators.
-Approve timecards, changes in schedule, and monitor staff attendance.
-Ensure appropriate corrective action is taken for staff performance issues, in consultation with management team members.
-Ensure compliance with local, state, and Federal rules and regulations, including but not limited to HIPAA.
-Other duties as required by direct supervisor or needs of the program/agency.

Required Skills & Experience
EDUCATION:
-Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a bachelor's degree OR Higher health-related qualification (e.g. Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner)
EXPERIENCE:
-Minimum of 1 year of employment in public health or a healthcare setting with demonstrated experience in care coordination, health administration, or direct clinical care.
-Experience in pediatric medical setting (preferred).
