Insight Global is seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Technician for a top food and beverage industry client. This candidate will serve as a critical support resource for the Pilot Plant Microbiology Laboratory, helping ensure safe and efficient operations through microbiological testing, environmental monitoring, and data interpretation. The ideal candidate will spend the majority of their time performing hands-on laboratory testing while also supporting Pilot Plant operations and production assets. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing samples, performing Petrifilm and vacuum filtration testing, interpreting microbiological data, and communicating results to operators, management, and cross-functional teams. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a blend of laboratory work and operational support, possesses strong analytical and communication skills, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced R&D and manufacturing environment.
Day-to-Day:
Spend approximately 70% of time in the microbiology laboratory and 30% of time supporting operations in the Technical Center/Pilot Plant
Support Pilot Plant operations through microbiological testing and analysis
Perform microbiological testing utilizing Petrifilm plating and vacuum filtration techniques
Conduct environmental monitoring and microbiological sampling throughout the Pilot Plant
Collect and analyze samples from water treatment and ingredient water systems
Support production assets through various microbiological sampling techniques
Perform aseptic sampling of products, ingredients, process streams, and production equipment
Read, interpret, and analyze microbiological test results from physical testing plates and other laboratory methods
Utilize existing SOPs, corporate microbiology requirements, and master testing plans to ensure compliance
Communicate laboratory findings and testing results to operators and plant personnel
Present microbiological data during meetings and distribute results to stakeholders as needed
Partner closely with management, including Victoria, to relay testing results and provide laboratory support
Collaborate with Pilot Plant operators, R&D, Quality, Food Safety, Engineering, and laboratory colleagues
Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation while adhering to GLP and food safety requirements

Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, or related laboratory/scientific field (4-year degree required)
Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document results
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multitask and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret laboratory data and communicate findings
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with operators, management, and cross-functional teams
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Previous experience in a microbiology, food science, quality, or research laboratory
Experience with microbiological testing methods, including Petrifilm plating and vacuum filtration
Experience with environmental monitoring and environmental sampling programs
Experience with aseptic sampling techniques
Experience developing, revising, or working within SOPs and laboratory documentation systems
