Job Description

We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join Prudential’s external-facing API and middleware team. This team plays a critical role in integrating third-party platforms and enabling modern, scalable, cloud-native systems across the organization. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience with backend development, is fluent in cloud technologies, and thrives in collaborative, cross-functional environments.

Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable software solutions using modern design patterns and architectural principles
• Implement and maintain even-driven and message-based systems
• Work in AWS environments using best practices for infrastructure, deployment, and automation
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Tech Leads, Designers, and Engineers to refine requirements and deliver robust features
• Collaborate with other internal domains such as the claims and billing teams
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code adhering to Prudential’s standards
• Develop and execute unit, integration, and functional tests; troubleshoot and resolve issues
• Contribute to DevOps practices including CI/CD, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code
• Apply emerging technologies and best practices to continuously improve software quality and performance
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of learning and innovation
• Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Strong proficiency in at least one object-oriented language (Java) and one scripting language (Python or JavaScript)

Required Skills & Experience

Backend Development:
○ Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot
○ Strong knowledge of REST API design and security (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS)

Cloud & DevOps:
○ Hands-on experience with AWS (GCP acceptable)
○ Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform)

Messaging & Architecture:
○ Experience with event-driven/messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, or similar
○ Solid understanding of microservices and distributed system architecture

Databases:
○ Experience with PostgreSQL or similar modern relational databases
○ Basic familiarity with DB2 is acceptable

Soft Skills:
○ Excellent communication and collaboration across technical and non-technical teams
○ Ability to understand business context and how your code impacts users and operations

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate
AWS Certified Developer – Associate
Experience in the financial services or insurance industries
