Day-to-Day:
• Lead the design and application of low- and medium-voltage switchgear systems
• Develop and review one-line diagrams, system architectures, and equipment layouts
• Define and validate bus configurations, breaker arrangements, and transfer schemes
• Configure, program, and troubleshoot protective relays (Siemens preferred)
• Support PLC-based transfer logic and control system integration
• Review and approve electrical and mechanical switchgear designs
• Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
• Support and execute commissioning activities, system validation, and troubleshooting
• Review customer specifications and ensure compliance with design requirements
• Provide technical guidance to manufacturing, field service, and project teams
• Serve as the switchgear and power systems SME across engineering and field organizations
• Participate in customer design reviews and technical discussions
• Develop engineering standards, best practices, and technical documentation
• Provide on-call technical support when required

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer – Critical Power for a leading critical infrastructure and power systems organization. This individual will serve as a technical authority for low- and medium-voltage switchgear systems supporting high-reliability power applications. The ideal candidate will own complex switchgear designs from concept through commissioning, including system architecture, protective relay configuration, transfer schemes, and overall system integration. They will lead FAT/SAT activities, provide expertise during field commissioning, and collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams. Required Skills & Experience
Must-Haves:
• 7+ years of experience in switchgear design, application engineering, commissioning, or power systems engineering
• Strong expertise with low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear systems (480V to 38kV; ideally up to ~69kV)
• Experience designing and supporting switchgear lineups, switchboards, breakers, and transformers
• Deep knowledge of protection relays, protective coordination studies, and short-circuit analysis
• Ability to develop, review, and interpret one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and equipment layouts
• Experience with transfer schemes, bus configurations, and breaker coordination
• Background supporting projects through design, manufacturing, FAT, SAT, and commissioning
• Strong troubleshooting experience with real-world power systems
• Experience leading technical discussions and serving as a subject matter expert
• Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, field service, and customers
• Ability to pass background checks and comply with drug-free workplace requirements
