Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a mid-level Software Engineer to support an L3Harris engineering team building and enhancing mission-critical software solutions. This engineer will be strongest on the “left side” of the SDLC / V-Model - partnering with stakeholders to capture and refine requirements, translating needs into well-defined epics and user stories, and shaping solution design before handing work packages to junior engineers for execution. The ideal candidate is hands-on across the stack (C/C++ back end, Java front end) and comfortable developing in Linux environments while collaborating in an Agile delivery model.
We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer that believes everyone matters. Qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment regardless of their race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, national origin, ancestry, genetic factors, age, disability, protected veteran status, military or uniformed service member status, or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances. Required Skills & Experience
3–5 years of professional software engineering experience.
Strong understanding of SDLC fundamentals with demonstrated strength in requirements analysis and solution design (left side of the V-Model).
Hands-on C and/or C++ development experience (back end)
Hands-on Java development experience (front end or service/UI layer depending on program needs)
Strong experience working in Linux (development, debugging, build tooling)
Proven ability to turn ambiguous asks into structured work: epics, stories, acceptance criteria, and task breakdowns.
Experience working in Agile (Scrum/Kanban) and using tools like Jira/Azure DevOps (or similar).
Strong communication skills - able to run requirement discussions, align stakeholders, and provide clear direction to junior engineers.
Job Responsibilities:
Partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders to elicit, clarify, and document requirements, focusing on early lifecycle activities (requirements → analysis → high-level design).
Translate stakeholder needs into epics, features, and user stories with clear acceptance criteria; sequence and refine backlog items to enable delivery.
Break down work into actionable tasks and delegate/coordinate assignments for junior engineers, providing guidance, context, and technical direction.
Contribute hands-on development across the stack:
Back-end development in C/C++
Front-end development in Java
Develop and maintain software in Linux environments, including build, debugging, and integration activities.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering partners (systems, test, integration) to ensure solutions align to requirements and are implementable, testable, and maintainable.
Support SDLC best practices including documentation, peer reviews, source control, and defect triage.
Mentor and support team members through code reviews, design walkthroughs, and problem-solving sessions.
Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
