Job Description

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Ground Construction Drill Operator to support underground telecommunications construction projects. This role is responsible for safely operating ground drilling equipment to open access for the installation of fiber optic and other internet cabling, while accurately locating and protecting existing underground utilities. The ideal candidate has strong experience in underground construction, can read and interpret design drawings, and acts as a spotter to ensure safe operation around live utilities and heavy machinery.

Key Responsibilities:
• Operate ground drilling equipment to support the installation of fiber optic and telecommunications infrastructure
• Locate, identify, and mark underground utilities prior to and during drilling activities
• Read and interpret design drawings, utility maps, and construction plans with a high level of accuracy
• Work closely with line locators, construction crews, and project supervisors to ensure safe and efficient operations
• Follow all job site safety protocols, OSHA standards, and company procedures
• Assist with general underground construction tasks as needed
• Maintain equipment and report any safety or mechanical concerns

Required Qualifications:
• 2+ years of experience in underground construction, drilling, or utility locating
• Hands-on experience working with ground drilling or excavation equipment
• Strong understanding of underground utilities and safe digging practices
• Ability to read and understand construction and design drawings
• Prior experience in underground construction such as plumbing, electrical, sewer, or telecom is highly preferred

Bonus Qualifications:
• Safety certifications (OSHA, confined space, equipment operation, etc.)
• Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) experience
• Bilingual in Spanish (strong plus, but not required)

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work around heavy equipment for extended periods
