Job Description

Insight Global's client in the engineering consulting space is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Power Engineer. This role is ideal for a seasoned mechanical engineer who thrives in a consulting-oriented environment, balancing technical leadership, detailed design, and client-facing advisory work.
As a Senior Power Mechanical Engineer, you will be a key leader within a multi‑disciplinary, matrixed organization, supporting projects across the utility, IPP (Independent Power Producer), industrial, institutional, and municipal sectors. You will operate within an Owner’s Engineer and expert consulting model, partnering closely with clients while mentoring engineers and designers across the mechanical discipline. Responsibilities include:
• Leading the mechanical engineering scope on power generation projects, coordinating closely with electrical, civil, I&C, and structural disciplines
• Serving as Lead Mechanical Engineer, Project Engineering Manager, or Project Manager depending on project size and complexity
• Providing mechanical engineering expertise for both detailed design and Owner’s Engineer (OE) engagements
• Perform and oversee detailed mechanical engineering deliverables, including:
• Heat and water balance development
• Mechanical equipment sizing and selection
• Pipe stress and flexibility analyses
• Code and standards reviews
Design basis development and technical memoranda

Required Skills & Experience

• 10 years of experience in power generation
• Majority coming from thermal power gen (coal, natural gas, oil, geothermal, biomass, etc.)
• Industry experience in order of importance: utility, data center work, IPP (Independent Power Producer), institutional/industrial, municipal
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Previous Consulting experience
• PE License
Design software: AutoCAD, MicroStation, PLS CAD, or combo of other applicable software

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• PMP certification
• Other power experience across generation, delivery and T&D
• Existing relationships with Midwest power utilities
• Experience with data center power infrastructure
• Experience in industrial and utility scale power generation systems and equipment
• Simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, RICE (reciprocating internal combustion engine), CHP (combined heat and power), and renewables project experience
• Lead Experience: ability to plan, schedule and lead design projects
