Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Senior Electrical Power Engineer for a top power and energy consulting client.
The Senior Electrical Power Engineer will lead and support electrical engineering efforts for utility‑scale thermal power, renewable energy, and energy storage projects, operating across both Owner’s Engineer (independent advisory) and Engineer of Record / design engineer roles. This position combines hands‑on detailed electrical design with technical oversight of EPC and contractor work, supporting clients through all phases of power generation projects—from concept and detailed design through construction and commissioning. The role also involves mentoring engineers, collaborating within multi‑discipline teams, supporting client relationships, and contributing to business development activities.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and perform detailed electrical engineering design for thermal power generation facilities, including combustion turbine, combined‑cycle, CHP, RICE, and other thermal plant technologies.
• Support projects in a traditional Owner’s Engineering role, providing independent technical review, advisory services, and risk mitigation for clients.
• Serve as Engineer of Record and/or design engineer, producing and reviewing construction documents and specifications for power plant electrical systems.
• Review and evaluate shop drawings, equipment submittals, and vendor documentation, including switchgear, motors, protection systems, and I&C interfaces.
• Design and review balance‑of‑plant electrical systems, including raceway and cable layout, grounding and lightning protection, lighting, auxiliary power, and motor control systems.
• Perform or oversee power system studies, such as short‑circuit, load flow, coordination, motor starting, and arc‑flash analyses.
• Support electrical engineering for renewable energy and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, including grid interconnection and integration with conventional generation assets.
• Coordinate closely with mechanical, civil, structural, and I&C disciplines to deliver fully integrated power plant designs.
• Provide construction‑phase support through RFI responses, design clarifications, field issue resolution, and commissioning assistance.
• Mentor and guide junior and mid‑level engineers, promoting quality, consistency, and professional growth.
Support client engagement and business development efforts, including proposal technical writing, fee development, work breakdown structures, and participation in client interviews and presentations.
