Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Mechanical Power Engineer for a top power and energy consulting client.
As a Power Mechanical Engineer, you will be joining a highly capable, multi-disciplined team that supports power and energy projects primarily within the utility, IPP, industrial, institutional, and municipal sectors. Preferred candidates will have a working knowledge of industrial- and utility-scale power generation systems as required to carry out the typical job duties which include: mechanical equipment/pipe sizing, equipment/piping layout considerations, construction document development (P&IDs, system layout/installation drawings and specifications), engineer/equipment vendor submittal reviews, vendor/contractor communications, technical writing (reports, procurement specifications, etc.), code reviews, site visits, project planning, and working within an assigned budget and schedule. This person will be responsible for the design and specification of power generation fluid systems including steam, condensate, fuel gas, cooling water, compressed air, and similar systems is preferred. Experience with utilization of software for detailed fluid analysis or modeling is a plus. The candidate will be encouraged and trained to develop from a mechanical or lead engineer to a project engineer and ultimately into a project manager or engineering manager. Most tasks will be done in a collaborative manner involving engineers and designers from several other disciplines. The candidate will be expected to share the benefits of his or her experience with others, including the mentoring of younger engineers. Communication and leadership skills are also required to direct a small team of engineers and designers.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience in power generation
• Industry experience in order of importance: utility, data center work, IPP (Independent Power Producer), institutional/industrial, municipal
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• EIT/PE License
• Previous Consulting experience
Design software: PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, Revit or other applicable software

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• PMP certification
• Prior consulting or owner’s engineering experience
• Other power experience across power delivery and T&D
• Existing relationships with Midwest power utilities
• Experience with data center power infrastructure
• Experience in industrial and utility scale power generation systems and equipment
• Simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, RICE (reciprocating internal combustion engine), CHP (combined heat and power), and renewables project experience
Lead Experience: ability to plan, schedule and lead design projects
