Job Description
An employer is looking for a highly-skilled associate general counsel to join one of our largest national general contractor clients for a permanent opportunity. In this role you'll manage a team of 4 to start - 3 paralegals and 1 additional associate general counsel. This position is within this client's real estate line of business, therefore you'll be supporting their development business which includes identifying land and clients, taking an ownership stake in a real estate project and seeing that through completion. Your role would entail securing funds to executive a development deal, including securing a construction loan from a bank or lender, and working with investors providing equity. You also will head up executing and redlining agreements for various development projects. There also will be a leasing component of this, therefore extensive experience specifically with real estate law is necessary in order for you to be successful on this team.

Required Skills & Experience
-A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and be an active member in good standing of the Minnesota State Bar is required.
-At least 10 years of successful legal counsel experience in a real estate services company, relevant law firm experience, and/or in-house experience in a commercial real estate development or construction organization.
-Expert-level knowledge of negotiating and closing complex land deals and creditor agreements, including navigating regulatory processes and approvals on the state and municipal level.
-Knowledge of capital markets, including debt and equity capital financing is required.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
-Deep tenant leasing and partnership formation (joint venture and private fund) experience
-Real estate deal experience with various types of properties including raw land, ground leases, and improved land.
-Established and communicated direction and priorities for the team, established goals, developed and executed plans to achieve key objectives, and demonstrated the ability to achieve expected results through the team.
-Track record of successfully hiring top talent in the legal function.
-Set and communicated expectations for leadership development, recruited and brought new talent into the company, enhanced leadership bench strength, and made decisions that upgrade the available talent level.
-Experience providing feedback, coaching, and access to other resources/support to develop top tier talent.
