Job Description

The Lead Buyer is responsible for coordinating and managing the global procurement and supply chain tactical procurement activity within the assigned categories. The activities this role is responsible for are requisition placement and processing, PO processing, PO rescheduling, inventory review and optimization, processing returns to the supplier, mitigation of increases, expediting parts and eliminating shortages through proactive actions, weekly metric tracking, process improvements etc. This role is responsible for supporting a cross-functional team to achieve annual goals and objectives of the strategic team and understand the terms of the long-term agreements with the supply base. They serve as the primary interface between the production floor and the suppliers.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Lead activities such as coordinating purchase orders, requisitions, request for quotes, and other similar documents related to the purchasing of products for production parts from new/existing suppliers.

- Proficient with all Buyer responsibilities and categories.
- Optimize inventory by adhering to A/B/C purchasing methodology.
- Determine appropriate order policy that fits supplier capabilities.
- Review and act upon MRP exception messages (expedites, deferrals, and cancellation of POs).
Timely place POs according to MRP recommendations.
- Coordinate transportation and logistics methods with input from the supplier and transportation department to ensure parts are identified correctly and delivered in a cost-effective manner.
- Manage part shortages and expedite as necessary from suppliers to ensure on-time delivery for production builds.
- Communicate parts availability to Category Lead and Supply Chain Leadership as appropriate.
- Monitor cost, schedule, technical specification and drawing release status of projects and lead corrective actions as required. Coordinate with supply base new component releases and design changes.
- Support technical reviews with the supply base.
- Disposition and communicate non-conforming part issues internally and externally providing support to the client quality team.
- Coordinate and monitor incoming supplier shipment to ensure compliance with client requirements.
- Create and maintain weekly purchasing metrics that measure supplier and department performance.
- Participate in continuous improvement and enterprise excellence projects and events.
- Lead execution of model year and NPD launches in production.
- Assist with MRB tasks as required.

Required Skills & Experience

- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Supply - Chain/Operations and 7+ years of tactical sourcing experience in the procurement field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Effective negotiation, communication, decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in Pull/Kanban, and Two-Bin inventory planning systems and Bill of Materials
- Advanced Functional knowledge of engineering documentation, manufacturing process control, and technical data.
- APICS CPIM certification is preferred.
- Program/Project management experience
- Advanced problem-solving skills with knowledge of six-sigma or lean office tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, particularly in Excel
- ERP systems use and functionality
- Advanced knowledge of Engineering systems uses and functionality, Jira, Creo, Windchill, Solumina
- MES systems use and functionality, Solumina preferred
