Job Title: Pipe Crew Supervisor
Department: Earthwork & Infrastructure
Reports To: VP of Earthwork & Infrastructure
Location: Various project sites across Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Montana
Status: Hourly (Non-Exempt)
Pay Rate: $35–$50 per hour (exact compensation based on experience, skills, and education) plus fringe benefits
Job Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time | Seasonal
Typical Schedule: Project-dependent; approximately 70+ hours per week during construction season
Start Date: February 2026

Position Summary
The Pipe Crew Supervisor is responsible for managing the installation of underground storm sewer systems. This role provides direct supervision to pipe crew members, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements. The Supervisor acts as a leader, trainer, and liaison between field crews, project managers, and equipment operators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Crew Supervision & Leadership
• Direct, schedule, and oversee daily activities of the pipe crew.
• Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide hands-on instruction when needed.
• Train, coach, and evaluate crew members to promote skill development and accountability.
• Foster a positive team environment focused on safety, respect, and productivity.
Project & Task Oversight
• Interpret project plans, blueprints, and grade stakes to ensure accurate installation.
• Oversee excavation, trenching, pipe laying, bedding, backfilling, and compaction.
• Verify pipe type, alignment, slope, and depth per project specifications.
• Track and report material usage, crew hours, and daily production to project management.
Safety & Compliance
• Enforce company safety policies, OSHA standards, and trench safety/shoring practices.
• Conduct weekly safety meetings and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
• Ensure proper use of PPE, equipment, and safe work practices at all times.
• Identify and correct unsafe behaviors or conditions immediately.
Coordination & Communication
• Coordinate with project managers on schedules, priorities, and resource needs.
• Communicate effectively with equipment operators, truck drivers, and subcontractors to maintain workflow.
• Provide timely updates on progress, delays, and workforce requirements.
Equipment & Quality Control
• Ensure tools and equipment are properly used and maintained.
• Perform spot checks using lasers, grade rods, and levels to confirm installation accuracy.
• Maintain records of inspections and corrective actions.

Required Skills & Experience

Qualifications
• 3–5 years of underground utility or pipe crew experience.
• 1–2 years in a lead, foreman, or supervisory role preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred with acceptable driving record.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and trench safety standards.
• Proficiency with construction lasers, levels, and grade-checking tools.

Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and standing.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, dust, noise).
• Tolerance for long hours and extended periods of standing and walking on uneven terrain.

Work Environment
• Field-based construction sites with exposure to heavy equipment, traffic, and changing conditions.
• Seasonal overtime and extended hours during peak construction season.
• Travel to multiple project sites required; overnight stays may be necessary.
