Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to support stamping press equipment simulation projects within our press shop systems. This role combines hands-on controls expertise with advanced simulation capabilities to optimize manufacturing processes, validate equipment designs, and support virtual commissioning activities before physical implementation.
Core Responsibilities
Controls & Equipment Design
Design, develop, and modify hardware & software for stamping press control systems
Work with PLC/HMI systems (Rockwell, Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT)
Configure and troubleshoot servo controls, VFDs, and robotic systems
Develop control logic for press automation, material handling, and part transfer systems
Interface with sensors, safety systems, and plant floor information systems
Simulation & Virtual Commissioning
Support the creation of 3D simulation models of stamping processes
Identify and develop virtual commissioning environments for PLC, HMI, and robot program validation
Perform software-in-loop and hardware-in-loop testing
Support modeling of press operations, die interactions, and automation tooling behavior
Conduct virtual testing of simulation logic and "what-if" scenarios
Die Engineering & Process Support
Understand die-to-press interface and tooling interactions from front-of-line to end-of-line
Support die validation simulation and press model development
Collaborate with die designers and manufacturing engineers on process optimization
Analyze simulation data to identify bottlenecks, collisions, and improvement opportunities
Project Management & Collaboration
Lead technical sessions including design reviews and commissioning activities
Coordinate with suppliers, plants, and internal teams during project execution
Travel to supplier sites and stamping plants for integration support
Communicate project status and technical findings to management

Required Skills & Experience

- 5+ experience programming PLCs for stamping machines or large industrial presses
- strong understanding of the stamping controls processes
