Manufacturing Engineer

Insight Global is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer in the Warren, Michigan location. The Manufacturing Engineer is going to help develop, launch, and continuously improve the manufacturing processes used to build next-generation battery systems. This role connects product design, manufacturing process development, equipment execution, and plant operations. The engineer will be working with various teams including product engineering, manufacturing engineering, plant engineering, manufacturing operations, quality, suppliers, and other cross-functional partners to deliver safe, robust, cost-effective, and production-ready battery assembly processes. This engineer will be comfortable working in both engineering and plant environments, and able to move projects from early process definition through equipment installation, launch, and sustained improvement.

Additional Responsibilities Include:
• Develop and document manufacturing processes, equipment concepts, tooling, work instructions, and operational flow for battery module and pack assembly.
• Support design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly activities with Product Engineering and related technical teams.
• Translate product requirements into a practical Bill of Process, process specifications, equipment requirements, and control strategies.
• Support prototype, development, pilot, and production builds by identifying issues, coordinating actions, and driving timely closure.
• Lead or support equipment and tooling execution, including design reviews, supplier coordination, build, integration, installation, debug, runoff, and launch readiness.
• Provide technical direction to equipment and tooling suppliers and coordinate cross-functional resolution of open issues.
• Develop and implement error-proofing, process controls, inspection methods, and standardized work to protect safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
• Use data and structured problem-solving methods to improve throughput, cycle time, first-pass yield, downtime, ergonomics, and total cost.
• Support PFMEA, control plans, process capability studies, dimensional analysis, tolerance analysis, and other manufacturing quality activities.
• Partner with plant teams during installation, commissioning, launch, ramp-up, and production stabilization.
• Identify risks to program timing and escalate issues with clear options, owners, and recovery plans.
• Capture lessons learned and drive read-across to other battery assembly programs and manufacturing sites.
• Communicate status, decisions, risks, and technical recommendations to engineering and leadership audiences.

$40/hr to $45/hr
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

- Bachelors Degree in Engineering
- 3-7 years of experience in manufacturing automotive
- Experience developing or improving assembly process in automotive manufacturing or battery environment
- Experience with process development, equipment integration, tooling, error-proofing, or manufacturing quality methods

- High voltage standards
- Battery module or pack assembly experience, including exposure to high-voltage manufacturing environments.
- Experience with lithium-ion battery components, module assembly, pack assembly, thermal management, structural joining, fastening, adhesive or sealant application, busbars, harnesses, or end-of-line testing.
- Experience with PFMEA, control plans, PPAP, GMS, lean manufacturing, 4-Wall principles, or similar production systems.
- Experience with equipment procurement, supplier management, installation, commissioning, debug, plant runoff, and launch.
- Familiarity with CAD, GD&T, dimensional analysis, manufacturing process planning, or virtual manufacturing tools.
- Experience supporting multiple sites, global teams, or complex cross-functional programs.
- Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
