Deep, Hands-On SQL Server DBA Experience: Must be an expert in traditional DBA tasks. They need to understand our legacy environment inside and out to migrate it effectively.
Proven, Hands-On Azure SQL Experience: This can't be just theoretical. They need experience administering Azure SQL environments, not just developing against them.
Direct On-Prem to Azure Migration Leadership: This is the key. We need someone who has been a lead or a primary player in a similar on-prem SQL Server to Azure SQL migration project.
Strong Automation & Scripting Skills: Proficiency with PowerShell is a must-have for a Microsoft-centric environment. Python is a strong plus.
Self-Starter Mentality: They will be the foundational database expert on a lean team and must be able to take initiative and drive projects to completion without a lot of hand-holding.
Experience as a true DBA who has evolved their skills into the cloud and has led a migration.
