Job Description
The Systems Engineer will apply broad engineering expertise to plan, design, integrate, test, and sustain secure, resilient communications and information systems. This role tackles novel, complex engineering problems; conducts trade studies and cost/schedule/performance/security analyses; supports digital engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE); and produces technical documentation and executive-level briefings. The engineer will help evaluate emerging technologies and architectures (including Modular Open Systems Architecture/Open Mission Systems concepts) to support modernization efforts, ensure end-to-end system integration, manage technical baselines, and provide risk management inputs aligned with Air Force processes. The position also performs DoD Cyber Workforce Framework (DoDI 8140) Information Systems Security Developer (631) and Systems Developer (632) tasks/KSAs.

Required Skills & Experience
Systems/communications engineering across full lifecycle (reqs → design → integration → test/validation → sustainment)
Solves complex/novel problems; adapts standards/methods as needed
Security + resiliency engineered into designs and trade-offs
Digital engineering / MBSE support experience
Trade studies & decision analysis (cost/schedule/performance/capability/security)
System integration (components + external interfaces)
System-level test, verification & validation; analyze test results
Cost estimating experience
Strong technical writing + briefings to leadership/stakeholders
Program risk management support aligned to Air Force processes
Performs DoDI 8140-aligned 631 (IS Security Developer) / 632 (Systems Developer) tasks/KSAs
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
NC3 mission systems and/or NC3 modernization experience
MOSA / Open Mission Systems (OMS) architecture experience
SWAP-C assessments and host platform HW/SW constraints analysis
Develops/contributes to new standards, methods, or technical baselines
Leads/defends recommendations through conflicting technical/policy decisions
Provides technical training and supports fielding/ops oversight
