Job Description
One of Insight Global’s pharma clients is seeking an Empower Systems Administrator / Lab IT Specialist to support and expand the Empower team due to increased bandwidth and operational demand. This role is hands-on and technically focused, with a strong emphasis on Waters Empower administration, lab automation support, and Windows-based infrastructure. The ideal candidate is an Empower generalist with administrator-level capabilities, comfortable working directly with laboratory instruments, lab users, and IT infrastructure. This role will support a planned Empower upgrade to version 3.81 and ongoing lab operations.
This position is not exclusively Empower-focused; the individual must also provide general Lab IT and instrument support.
Key Responsibilities
• Serve as a hands-on Empower Administrator, managing Empower at the server and application level
• Perform user management, including roles, groups, privileges, and security policies
• Configure and maintain Empower projects, including:
o Project creation
o Backup and restore
o Security configuration
• Support audit trail review and ensure data integrity controls are followed
• Configure custom fields and troubleshoot acquisition and processing issues
• Support and execute Empower version upgrade to 3.81
• Support Windows Server environments supporting Empower and lab systems
• Assist with Active Directory integration

Required Skills & Experience
• 4+ years of hands-on experience with Waters Empower (Administration level)
• Experience supporting HPLC and Mass Spectrometry instruments
• Working knowledge of:
o Windows Server
o Active Directory
o Lab instrument connectivity
• Comfortable working in a lab-facing, operational environment
• Strong troubleshooting skills across applications, instruments, and infrastructure
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Empower Toolkit and SQL query experience
• Familiarity with:
o Waters Personal Workstation
o BCLACE / MDLACE configurations
• Prior experience supporting Empower upgrades
• Broader exposure to lab automation platforms and LIMS systems
• Demonstrated potential to grow deeper into lab instrument and automation support
