Job Description

A global law firm with nearly 1,400 lawyers and more than 3,000 employees across 19 offices in the United States, Europe, and Asia is looking to build out a data lake to encompass both internal and external data. The role is a long-term contract with potential to hire down the line, so the candidate must be commutable to one of their office locations: Boston MA, NYC, Palo Alto CA, Chicago IL, Denver CO, LA, Miami FL, Reston VA, San Diego CA, San Francisco CA, Santa Monica CA, Seattle WA, or Washington DC. The role will require 4-8 days onsite per month. The firm is widely recognized for its expertise in corporate law, litigation, intellectual property, life sciences, technology, and venture capital, advising on transformative deals, IPOs, and complex regulatory matters. The firm has earned numerous workplace accolades, including being named to Fortune’s Best Companies to Work For and receiving honors such as Best Workplaces for Women, Best Workplaces for Flexibility, Best Workplaces for Giving Back, and Best Workplaces for Parents.

The Client is transforming how data is consumed across the firm, moving from static dashboards toward role‑aware, narrative‑first, AI‑assisted insight experiences. As part of this transformation, the UI/UX Designer will shape how attorneys, business teams, and leadership experience governed insights across Power BI, Databricks Apps, and Genie/Copilot experiences.

This individual will own the design system, user‑journey patterns, and insight‑experience frameworks that ensure our analytics products are intuitive, trusted, performant, and aligned to firm workflows.

This is not a traditional web design role. It is enterprise analytics UX, requiring sensitivity to governance, metric consistency, complex business models, and high‑trust environments.

Key Responsibilities

- Design intuitive, role‑aware user interfaces for analytics surfaces:
Power BI thin reports
Databricks Apps (including the FinIQ replacement application)

- Create narrative‑first layouts that reduce dependence on raw tables and exports.
-Work with the Analytics Platform Delivery Lead to define UX standards for Certified dashboards, including layout, navigation, filters, interactions, and accessibility.

Color palettes, visual hierarchy, typography
Component patterns (cards, KPIs, slicers, narratives, drill paths)
Interaction rules and accessibility standards
-Define reusable UX patterns for common analytic use cases (client intelligence, matter insights, financial workflows, etc.).

User Research & Journey Mapping
-Conduct user interviews, usability testing, and workflow observations.
-Build journey maps, personas, and prototypes that reflect real attorney and business‑team needs.
-Translate findings into validated design recommendations that integrate seamlessly with governed semantics.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with:
Analytics Engineers and BI Developers
Gold Data Modelers
Databricks App Developers
Data Governance and Security
-Ensure UX designs conform to RLS/CLS, governed semantics, and certified metric definitions.

Execution Quality & Feedback Loop
- Produce developer‑ready UI specifications and component guidelines.
- Provide UX QA support during development and deployment.
- Track UX KPIs including export reduction, workflow completion inside apps, narrative adoption, and satisfaction scores.

Initial 6–9 Month Focus
-Deliver Client Analytics Design System v1 for Power BI and Databricks Apps.
- Redesign a high‑impact domain with role‑aware, narrative‑first patterns.
- Implement UX standards for Certified dashboards and semantic‑layer‑aligned experiences.
- Provide UX leadership on the Databricks App FinIQ replacement MVP.
Success Measures (12 Months)
- Design System adopted by BI developers, app developers, and analytics engineers.
- ≥30% reduction in UX inconsistencies across dashboards and apps.
- ≥40% increase in narrative‑first experience usage vs. table‑centric reporting.
-Measurable decrease in unnecessary Excel exports.
-High UX satisfaction scores from practice groups and business teams.
