Job Description:
Insight Global is seeking a Process Control Engineer for a top chemical manufacturing client in Havre de Grace, MD. This individual will serve as a key technical resource in a union plant environment, providing hands-on support for process automation, control systems, and instrumentation, with a strong focus on improving process stability, reducing variability, and driving a Right First Time operating culture. The role involves troubleshooting and supporting legacy PLC systems, upgrading older PLCs, adding and configuring instrumentation such as temperature probes and sensors, and working with Manufacturing Execution Systems (including Aspen Process Explorer) to improve data visibility through new tag development. This engineer will also take ownership of day-to-day support across PLCs, drives, controls, and HMIs while partnering closely with operations, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to support new product introductions, capital projects, and continuous process improvements, all while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and environmental compliance.


Day-to-Day:
Provide daily process control and automation support to manufacturing operations
Own and support PLCs, drives, control systems, HMIs, and instrumentation
Troubleshoot and upgrade legacy PLC systems and add new instrumentation (e.g., temperature probes)
Develop and maintain interlock matrices, control documentation, P&IDs, and electrical diagrams
Lead and support automation and process improvement initiatives to reduce variability and drive Right First Time performance
Support new product introductions, technology transfers, and chemical commissioning
Participate in MOC, PHA, and safety reviews
Support small capital projects from justification through startup
Train operators and supervisors on unit operations, and control system updates

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (other engineering disciplines considered)
5+ years of experience in Process Engineering and/or Project Engineering
Strong hands-on experience with process instrumentation and automation
PLC experience (Allen-Bradley / Rockwell strongly preferred)
Experience upgrading legacy PLC systems and adding new tags/instrumentation
Exposure to Manufacturing Execution Systems (Aspen Process Explorer experience highly relevant)

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience working in a union manufacturing environment
Chemical manufacturing industry background
Six Sigma exposure or continuous improvement experience
Batch process and recipe management experience
