Job Description

Insight Global is looking to hire an Electrical SME to sit in a hybrid environment in Frederick or Gaithersburg, MD. This individual will be responsible for providing leadership and technical authority for the electrical scope during front-end project phases. This role ensures that safe, reliable, code-compliant, and scalable electrical infrastructure is embedded in business cases, FEL/Pre FEED deliverables, and concept packages, balancing risk, cost, schedule, and lifecycle operability for GMP and non-GMP facilities.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Electrical Strategy: Define architecture and capacity for utilities, medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, redundancy, and segmentation aligned with process loads, HVAC, labs, data rooms, and growth.
- Basis of Design: Establish design criteria (voltages, short-circuit ratings, arc flash, load classification, power quality, grounding, resilience targets).
- Risk & Reliability: Lead early risk reviews (HAZID, FMEA), set resilience schemes (N+1, dual utility, generator/UPS, transfer schemes, coordination).
- Codes & Compliance: Apply NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, IEC, and local codes; ensure alignment with permitting and AHJ requirements.
- Critical Power: Define emergency/standby power, UPS topology, battery specs, runtime, and conditions for IT/OT, GxP, and life safety.
- Power Quality & EMI: Specify harmonic, flicker, voltage regulation requirements; mitigation strategies; address EMI/RFI for sensitive equipment.
- Grounding & Bonding: Review grounding systems, hazardous location bonding, and lightning protection.
- Hazardous Locations: Determine classification boundaries, ventilation interlocks, equipment suitability, and gas detection integration.
- Energy & Sustainability: Incorporate efficiency, demand management, metering, renewables readiness; support ESG and utility incentives.
- Spatial Coordination: Define electrical room requirements, clearances, routing, and penetrations; use 3D markups for maintainability.
- Integration: Coordinate with Process, HVAC, Controls, IT/OT, Real Estate, and SHE for load alignment and emergency response.
- Vendor Review: Evaluate major equipment (switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, PDUs, transformers, generators, UPS); set standards and acceptance criteria.
- Documentation: Review concept deliverables (BoD, single-line diagrams, load lists, fault/arc flash assumptions, resilience narratives, hazardous maps).
- Cost & Schedule: Provide input on capex, schedules, long-lead items, and utility upgrades.
- Change Management: Track electrical impacts of scope/design changes; maintain coordination and resilience intent.
- Readiness & Handover: Define criteria for design progression; hand over requirements, assumptions, and risk actions.

Compensation:
$75.00/hr to $85.00/hr.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

- GxP Facility Design: Familiarity with GMP environments, cleanrooms, and regulated system expectations (reliability, data integrity for automation/IT systems, and utility qualification considerations).
- Tools and Methods: Proficient reviewing single line diagrams, load lists, PFDs/P&IDs interfaces, and 3D layouts; experience with conceptual calculations and scoping for downstream detailed studies.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Licensure/Certifications: PE (Electrical) preferred; PMP, LEED AP, or equivalent desirable.
- Biologics/Life Sciences: Electrical support for cell culture, downstream purification, clean utilities (WFI, clean steam), HVAC for classified spaces, and effluent systems.
