Job Description

The Manager of Plant Operations & Facilities Engineering provides leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight for the maintenance, utilities, and facilities engineering functions of the hospital. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of all building systems and infrastructure that support patient care, regulatory requirements, and organizational objectives.
The Manager plays a critical role in maintaining a safe healing environment through effective management of facility operations, Life Safety and Environment of Care programs, preventive maintenance, capital planning support, and infrastructure reliability. This position partners with clinical and operational leaders to ensure uninterrupted support of patient care while promoting regulatory readiness, fiscal stewardship, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:
• Assist in the development and management of operating and capital budgets, ensuring effective utilization of resources while maintaining quality, safety, and fiscal responsibility.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and support to frontline supervisors and staff through orientation, training, competency assessment, and performance improvement initiatives.
• Oversee contract services, vendor performance, quality control inspections, and cost management to ensure compliance with organizational standards and contract requirements.
• Establish and maintain effective communication with staff, leadership, physicians, contractors, and key stakeholders.
• Support facility renovation and construction projects, including scheduling, budgeting, compliance, and coordination of activities to minimize disruption to patient care.
• Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies and procedures that promote safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
• Lead Joint Commission Life Safety, Environment of Care, and other regulatory compliance activities, ensuring continuous survey readiness.
• Conduct and support Life Safety, Environment of Care, and regulatory audits to maintain compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards.
• Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), utilizing data analytics to improve asset reliability, operational efficiency, and resource allocation.
• Ensure the safe and reliable operation of critical hospital infrastructure, including HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, electrical distribution, emergency power, medical gas systems, plumbing, fire protection systems, and grounds maintenance.
• Evaluate facility conditions and infrastructure needs, providing recommendations for repairs, replacements, and capital investments.
• Support emergency preparedness and business continuity efforts to ensure facility resilience and uninterrupted patient care operations.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor's Degree
3 years' experience in healthcare setting or 5 years' experience working in the management of a Facilities Engineering Department
Must have a valid Maryland driver's license and a driving record with no more than two (2) points.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Preferred:
• Certified Health Care Facility Manager (CHFM License)
