Job Description

HDR is seeking a Substation Engineer to join its nationally ranked Power Delivery team. This role focuses on high-voltage electric utility projects ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV, encompassing a wide variety of sizes and complexitiesfrom small distribution upgrades to large transmission substation projects across the globe. Key responsibilities include physical substation and protection/control system design, project budgeting and scheduling, coordination with interdisciplinary teams, and equipment specification. The Substation Engineer will perform calculations, prepare scopes, and ensure effective communication with clients and team members. Additionally, expertise in creating physical layouts of substations and direct experience working with utilities companies are essential for this role. There is also an opportunity to mentor and supervise less-experienced engineers and designers. This position is ideal for individuals with technical expertise, leadership skills, and a dedication to a collaborative work culture.

Responsibilities:
· Support preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets, and ensure that schedules and budgets are met
· Understands physical substation design including yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material
· Understands protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring
· Prepare calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies, etc.)
· Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing
· Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)
· Effectively communicate and coordinate project activities with manager, clients, and others as needed
· Works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise efforts of less-experienced EIT's and/or Designers.

The compensation for this role ranges from $45/hr to 52/hr depending on skillset, education, and years of experience. Benefits are also offered for this role.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
3-5 years of experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard design software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, PLS CAD, Plant 3D, and AutoPipe.
Strong commitment to being an active participant in an employee-owned culture.
Expertise in designing physical layouts of substations.
Direct experience working with utilities companies.
