Job Description

The Sr. Avionics Engineer is responsible for the engineering data, instructions, documents, and technical support that, within budgetary and regulatory constraints, ensure the safety, airworthiness, and reliability of Company aircraft within the following ATA chapter subjects: Auto Flight, Communications, Electrical Power, Instruments, Lights, Navigation, Central Maintenance Systems (CMS), Inert Gas System (IGS), Engine Indicating (22, 23, 24, 31, 33, 34, 45, 46, 47, 77).


Day-to-Day:
Provide engineering guidance on aircraft safety, airworthiness, and reliability issues.
Create Engineering Orders and technical documents to support efficient aircraft maintenance and return-to-service.
Evaluate regulatory and industry documents including FARs, NPRMs, ADs, SBs, SLs, and other in-service notifications.
Analyze reliability trends and collaborate with Reliability engineers to develop product improvement modifications.
Partner with maintenance teams to develop Action Plans for troubleshooting and resolving AOG events and chronic issues.
Update technical manuals and source documents (AMMs, WDMs, FIMs) to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Support the integration and phase-in of new and previously operated aircraft into the fleet.
Liaise with OEMs, manufacturers, MROs, and internal/external engineering teams to resolve technical challenges.
Participate in industry working groups, steering committees, and conferences to stay current with best practices.
Review and extract insights from consultants, contractors, and MRO avionics engineers regarding aircraft reliability.
Work with OEMs to reduce economic impact of maintenance and modifications.
Draft documentation for system modifications and repairs to support maintenance program updates.
Define component repair and build specifications to enhance dispatch reliability within budget and regulatory limits.

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Haves:
12+ years' experience working in Airline, Aviation, Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO), and/or Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) industries
7-9 years' experience in design or applied engineering
FAA A&P License (Airframe & Powerplant) or FCC License (Federal Communications Commission)
Experience with various authoring and software tools specific to engineering reporting such as Inform (iDMR), Autodesk, Tableau, TRAX, MBF, or Adobe.
Technical knowledge of aircraft (transport category) avionic systems and components.
Ability to travel approximately 1 domestic trip per month.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Plusses:
Bachelor's in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or related Engineering discipline.
