A leading engineering client of Insight Global is seeking a Principal Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join their team in Kansas City! We are seeking someone who is passionate about ownership and takes pride in the quality of deliverables. This role involves overseeing projects and staff, executing project work, and heavily influencing the writing and maintenance of our standards, guidelines, and procedures. Responsibilities include setting discipline-specific goals, providing industry expertise, and assisting with process improvements. Ideally, the Principal Engineer will be a subject matter expert in their field and will ultimately own the quality for their discipline.
Position Responsibilities:
- Own and develop technical deliverables, standardizing I&C guidelines and templates.
- Lead engineers and designer.
- Manage project scope, budget, and schedule, including change management.
- Provide third-party I&C engineering oversight and quality reviews.
- Own I&C design; may serve as engineer of record or project manager.
- Perform/review I&C engineering tasks using current technology and standards.
- Prepare/review I&C calculations and specifications.
- Collaborate with EPC team and clients on RFIs, reviews, change orders, and equipment buyout.
- Develop project team vision, set priorities, and align with goals.
- Foster high-performing teams and mentor members.
- Improve customer satisfaction, work quality, and efficiency.
- Develop and implement guidelines for engineering standardization.
- Identify and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Stay updated on technology and industry practices.
Execute a communications plan to keep the team informed.

- Bachelors degree in electrical or controls engineering from an accredited program
- 8+ years of experience in related work experience in fossil fuels, power or generation
Experience creating network/architecture drawings, communications drawings, BOP I/O List, control narratives, programming logic, P&IDs, etc.
- Familiar with Allen Bradley (Rockwell Automation) ControlLogix hardware using Flex I/O and PLC controls
