Job Description

A leading energy client of Insight Global is seeking a Lead Protection Engineer to join their engineering team in Leawood, KS. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about ownership and quality. This role involves leading technical work on EPC projects. Reporting to the Principal Substation Engineer, you will collaborate with our EPC team and clients to deliver high-quality results.
Position Responsibilities

- Client-facing: Manage the scope, budget, and schedule for electrical discipline tasks on assigned projects, including executing change management processes.
- Initially provide third-party engineering oversight and engineering management for the Substation team, responsible for the development and/or system integration of electrical designs, as we build our internal team.
- Execute electrical technical design on projects and may also serve as the engineer of record.
- Perform or review routine and complex engineering, design, analysis, and other technical tasks within the electrical discipline, utilizing current technology, available standards, calculation software, templates, and cataloged products.
- Prepare or review load lists, power system studies, substation layouts, single lines, equipment layouts, area classifications, sizing calculations, schematics, equipment specifications, data sheets, requisitions, and technical bid analysis.
- Collaborate with our integrated EPC team and clients to execute RFIs, deliverable reviews, change order requests, engineering equipment buyout, etc.
- Regularly perform reviews of vendor documents to ensure compliance with specifications and data sheet requirements.
- Foster high-performing teams and behaviors to ensure successful project execution.
- Mentor and develop team members, providing technical guidance on projects and disciplines.
- Continuously seek ways to improve customer satisfaction, the quality of work products, and operating efficiencies.
- Help develop, review, and implement guidelines and procedures to ensure engineering standardization and templating of work.
- Stay up to date with the latest technology and industry practices, applying them in practical ways.
- Perform assigned tasks efficiently and effectively to maximize individual productivity.
- Lead quality checks of project design and engineering to ensure accuracy.
- Establish credibility through technical competency and team leadership abilities.

Required Skills & Experience

- Bachelors degree in electrical engineering
- 6+ years of experience as an engineer with substations or switchyards
- Technical knowledge of relays, protections and controls for substations / switchyards
experience creating grounding, area class, power, single line, schematic and motor control drawings
- Ability to specify high, medium, and low voltage electrical equipment (Breakers, Transformers, switchgear, etc.)

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- PE
- Able to perform engineering calculations, e.g., load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonics, equipment sizing, large motor starting, grounding, transient stability, electromagnetic transients, insulation coordination, etc.
