Job Description

The Welding Manager oversees welding technicians and the weld school, applies industry welding codes and standards, and serves as a key technical resource for the facility. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Welding Engineering for the Business Unit. Listed below are the daily duties required for this role.

• Lead and supervise welding technicians and weld school participants
• Oversee and maintain the weld school program and equipment
• Develop and enhance plant welding programs in alignment with engineering leadership
• Troubleshoot welding processes, techniques, equipment, and weld defects
• Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality
• Provide technical welding support during customer and third-party audits
• Participate in and support internal welding audits
• Train, instruct, qualify, and certify welders and welding operators
• Verify welding equipment and generate welding performance reports
• Maintain accurate testing, training, and qualification documentation
• Serve as a subject matter expert on welding procedures and specifications
• Support the New Welder Mentor Program
• Assist with production welding activities as needed
• Investigate root causes of weld defects and implement preventative solutions

Required Skills & Experience

• 2-5+ of heavy fabrication experience without formal education
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or ability to obtain certification within one year
• Advanced hands-on knowledge of FCAW, SAW, and GMAW welding processes
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding procedure and performance qualifications
• Proficiency with visual weld inspection tools

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in welding engineer or engineering technology
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
