Job Description
Farm Bureau Financial Services (FBFS) is seeking a Mainframe Application Developer to design, build, and support core business applications. This role focuses on translating business requirements and use cases into reliable, high‑performing mainframe solutions while ensuring long‑term scalability, maintainability, and performance.
The ideal candidate is a strong COBOL developer who understands mainframe batch and online processing, has experience navigating enterprise mainframe environments, and writes clean, structured, reusable code.
• Translate business requirements, storyboards, and use cases into functional mainframe applications
• Working on Backlogs and Tech debts
• Ensure application performance, quality, and responsiveness
• Identify system bottlenecks and defects, and implement effective solutions
• Apply appropriate design and architectural patterns in a mainframe environment
• Develop reusable code libraries and utilities
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support ongoing enhancements and maintenance
This position pays between $40-$50 hr.

Required Skills & Experience
• 6+ years of Mainframe development experience
• Strong experience with:
○ COBOL
○ JCL
• Solid understanding of mainframe application design and architecture
• Experience supporting enterprise‑scale applications
• Strong problem‑solving and debugging skills
Ability to write clean, readable, and well‑structured code
Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience working in financial services or insurance environments (nice to have)
