Job Description

Seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join an expanding team in Merrillville, IN. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be under the direction of the Service Manager. This role performs service and repair procedures on truck-mounted vacuum equipment both in the shop and in the field. Responsibilities include troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, conducting PM inspections, and ensuring equipment meets “Ready to Rent” standards. Occasional travel for field service calls and training is required.

Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics
- Perform scheduled PM inspections on chassis, vacuum body, hydraulic, electrical, air, and water systems
- Conduct repairs within DOT or OEM standards to return rental equipment to “Ready to Rent” status
- Document “check in” and “check out” inspections of fleet equipment
- Maintain and organize shop and storage areas, ensuring proper storage of flammable items
- Communicate effectively and work as part of a team
- Maintain accurate records and ensure timely completion of assignments

Required Skills & Experience

- Minimum three (3) years of verifiable experience as a mechanic
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics
- Solid hands-on understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems and electrical troubleshooting
- Ability to administer DOT inspections
- Must own and supply a basic set of hand tools and storage box (company provides large and specialized tools)
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for field service calls and training

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Experience with truck-mounted vacuum equipment
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data, drawings, and schematics
- Familiarity with DOT or OEM standards for repairs
- Prior experience maintaining and organizing shop/storage areas
