Industrial maintenance electricians are a core component of plant maintenance. They perform all electrical maintenance functions necessary to maintain all operating and service equipment using standard and specialized tools and equipment including mobile equipment, pendant and overhead cranes, and forklifts. Primary functions include the installation, maintenance, repairing, and operation of a broad range of electrical systems and electrical equipment in a heavy industrial environment to maintain continuous operations of the plant.

Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot, install, maintain, and repair a broad range of electrical and electronic systems and equipment using schematics, AC/DC systems, and PLCs.
- Provide assistance in operating functions as necessary.
- May work alone with minimal supervision or with other maintenance technicians.
- Work in various areas of the plant locations is required. Dependent upon the area, environmental conditions can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.

365 day/24-hour environment, so must be okay with overtime, weekend, and holiday work. The environment will be exposed to weather and steel mill conditions, including being wet, hot, dirty, and greasy.

Gary Works has two separate plants in the same location and then a third plant 12 miles away in Portage, IN, which they call Midwest. One of the Gary buildings is a primary operations location, where iron ore is converted into cast steel slabs. The second Gary location and Midwest are both finishing location, where the cast steel slabs are rolled into products to then be distributed to clients and customers.

Primary Operations locations are a combination of outdoor and metal coal buildings, so workers are exposed to both daily weather conditions as well as steel mill conditions. The finishing mill is entirely a metal coal building with basic steel mill conditions.
