Insight Global is seeking an Automation Engineer to support one of our largest material handling logistics clients in Columbus, Indiana. This individual will serve as the project lead for production process optimization and robotic automation initiatives, driving efficiency across operations. The Automation Engineer will be responsible for planning, procuring, and integrating large-scale capital projects, developing strategies from concept to managing execution. This role requires close cross-functional collaboration with procurement, manufacturing, and external vendors to ensure cost-effective, high-impact solutions.

Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Materials, Chemical) OR associate degree in a technical field with relevant experience OR sufficient internship experience
0–7 years of experience in an industrial environment: planning for the procurement and commissioning of new equipment and robots to automate production
Experience reviewing specifications and spec sheets, developing justifications for new equipment and robotic purchases, and supporting the investigation, design, planning, and management of multimillion‑dollar capital projects
Background serving as a project expert and supporting the installation and commissioning of new robots and equipment
Knowledge/experience with Yaskawa or Fanuc robots for automation
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Liquid and powder coat paint application knowledge
Knowledge of robotic paint application
Experience working with different (E-stat, HVLP, AAA) paint application methods
Understanding of paint system design and the benefits of different technologies
Basic knowledge of chemical pretreatment systems and chemicals
