Job Description
A large retail company is seeking a dynamic, results-driven Director of Product Engineering to lead and inspire a growing team of engineers in building high-performance, scalable, and user-friendly systems across our consumer-facing portfolio of websites. In this role, you will oversee the strategic direction of engineering across multiple products & platforms, partnering with design, product, marketing, and engineering teams to ensure that our consumer-facing technology stack and supported digital products align with the company’s long-term objectives.
The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with deep technical expertise in software development, a passion for delivering exceptional user experiences, and strong leadership and communication skills. Key Responsibilities:
· Leadership & Strategy:
o Lead and mentor a team of engineers, helping them to grow professionally and achieve high levels of performance.
o Define and implement a clear engineering vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with company goals.
o Galvanize multiple teams to execute the defined vision and strategy.
o Drive innovation and research in new technologies, frameworks, and tools, ensuring the team is up-to-date with industry trends.
o Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence within the team and across departments.
· Technical Leadership:
o Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of systems for multiple products
o Ensure performance, scalability, accessibility, and security best practices are adhered to across all systems.
o Collaborate with UX/UI designers to ensure that designs are fully realized with an intuitive, polished user experience.
o Drive the adoption of frontend frameworks (React, Next.JS, TypeScript) build tools, and deployment processes.
o Provide guidance on code reviews, pull requests, and quality control processes to ensure high standards in engineering.
o Enforce automated testing practices and rigorous code quality standards to minimize defects
o Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics for engineering productivity, quality, and impact
o Assist with resource planning and delivery to ensure projects are executed according to product requirement documentation and within agreed upon deadlines.
· Collaboration & Communication:
o Partner with product managers to understand user needs and translate them into technical requirements and deliverables.
o Communicate progress, challenges, and technical decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience
10+ years of experience in software development with a proven track record of delivering complex, high-quality software.
5+ years of leadership experience managing and growing engineering teams.
Expertise in modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, etc.), JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and front-end tooling (Webpack, Babel, etc.).
Experience with headless ecommerce platforms, preferably Salesforce Commerce Cloud, and headless content management systems
Familiarity with backend technologies and APIs (REST, GraphQL, etc.).
Proven ability to drive technical decisions and architecture for large-scale applications.
Experience working in a cloud-based, microservices architecture environment.
Experience with TypeScript or other typed JavaScript supersets.
Experience scaling engineering teams and processes in a fast-paced environment
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
