Job Description

This individual will be embedded with United’s Analytics & Innovation teams and working alongside full-time employees on complex, multi-month to multi-year initiatives. Day to day, they will analyze massive, real-world datasets, develop and apply advanced statistical models, and partner closely with business leaders across areas like network planning, revenue management, loyalty, airport operations, and tech ops. The role emphasizes thoughtful problem framing, deep analytical rigor, and translating complex findings into practical, high-impact business decisions.

Responsibilities
· Develop and apply advanced statistical and multivariate models to complex business problems
· Analyze large-scale, enterprise data to support strategic, operational, and financial decisions
· Design analytical approaches, hypotheses, and validation strategies
· Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure analytics align with real business needs
· Communicate results through presentations, case discussions, and executive-ready storytelling
Support multiple concurrent long-term analytics initiatives as an embedded team member

Required Skills & Experience

Must Haves
· PhD or ABD in Statistics or closely related quantitative field (math, OR, engineering, etc.)
· Very strong foundation in statistical theory and advanced/multivariate methods
· Experience working with large-scale, complex datasets
· Ability to quickly learn and interpret the business meaning behind data
· Hands-on experience applying statistics, forecasting, and ML-adjacent techniques
· Experience with statistical tools and structured programming languages (R, Python, SAS, etc.)
· Strong problem-solving approach and ability to explain analytical thinking clearly
· Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

· Broader exposure across multiple statistical subfields
· Some overlap with operations research or decision science
· Deeper experience in machine learning or large-scale data science
· Airline industry experience (not required, but speeds ramp-up)
· Experience with Julia
· Familiarity with optimization-adjacent analytics or OR concepts
