Job Description

Insight Globals large manufacturing client is looking for an Electrical Engineer focused on Power and Power System Studies with 15+ years of experience to work within a manufacturing companys corporate electrical engineering team. The individual will report to and take direction from the companys resident Power Engineer and the Electrical Design Manager. The Electrical Engineer will work with office and plant personnel, Project Managers, and other disciplines to develop and modify electrical designs and update the arc flash study files in SKM Power Tools software. They will perform plant walkdowns to gather data for arc flash studies, conduct calculations, create/modify drawings, write scopes of work, coordinate with outside contractors/vendors, and make site visits to plants as needed. Additionally, they will write equipment specifications, develop preliminary designs, MTOs (material takeoffs) and man-hour estimates. The position also requires knowledge and ability to provide on-site and remote guidance to safely troubleshoot the power systems of the companys 50 North American industrial manufacturing facilities. Responsibilities include:

Serve as a technical resource for the company for efficient electrical power distribution operation consistent with overall company safety objectives
Conduct site walkdowns and collect all relevant data to complete an Arc Flash Study
Update, modify and/or create Arc Flash Study Project Files in SKM Power Tools
Generate reports for short circuit analysis, arc flash analysis, under-rated equipment analysis, a coordination
study and a list of value engineered corrective recommendations
Responsible for the electrical power distribution specifications and designs that are safe, high quality, practical
and cost effective for the application
Recommend, develop, and implement electrical power distribution maintenance and capital improvement plans
Work with outside consultants as assigned on various capital and plant projects
Provide the design and/or specification of equipment and processes
Provide technical input for engineering design
Review and approve engineering drawings and plans
Work closely with other engineering disciplines on multi-discipline projects
Work as a key part of a project team to meet project objectives
Work with plant personnel to ensure compatibility with plant equipment and procedures
Develop project scope definition
Work with and educate less-experienced engineers in the execution of engineering functions
Ensure the companys safety values and practices are adhered to in all designs and plant modifications
Lead and provide technical input to 3rd party engineering design firms to maintain company standards of
quality, safety and scope adherence
Utilize department resources, experience and existing engineering designs in the performance of assignments
Provide troubleshooting and technical assistance to manufacturing plants
Meet discipline commitments regarding schedule and budget
Provide disciplines contribution of labor and material quantities for capital project cost estimates for
engineering and equipment
Assist in providing input to the Safety Department for the maintenance of the Electrical Safety Model Program
Ability to travel 50% of the time mainly within North America.

Required Skills & Experience

15+ years of experience in power distribution design.
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering.
Strong experience with high voltage design above 480v, design from utility feed to low voltage substations, and down to the MCC level.
Medium voltage protection strategies and medium voltage motor control.
Experience with SKM for Arc Flash Studies.
Strong experience conducting full Arc Flash studies.
Ability to read and work with MCC schematics.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

PE license.
Development of wiring block diagrams.
Design of lighting layouts.
Design of power panel schedules.
Preparation of fabrication packages for VFDs, MCCs, etc., including equipment specifications.
Preparation of MCC, VFD, and IO/PLC components equipment specifications.
Electrical portion of P&ID.
Control Panel/Station layout and IO schematic creation.
