Job Description

This developer will be working within the Loyalty space within Digital at a large global hotel chain. Currently there are tons of APIs all over the enterprise with different teams building them, and this hiring manager has initiated an effort to consolidate the APIs and bring them into a centralized area. The technical stack is Java, Spring boot, microservices/Kubernetes. This developer will develop Restful APIs and support technical issues as well, so they have to have the ability to go into systems (such as DataDog) and troubleshoot why an API call failed. Loyalty is integrated with every single system, so this person will research why an API is not working by looking at other teams’ code. They need to have an inquisitive, curious mindset to dive in, go down rabbit holes to track down root cause of issues.

Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Java Developer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will support and enhance modern microservices-based applications built on Java and Spring Boot. You will work across multiple teams to deliver scalable, resilient, and secure services. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with the Architect and other Developers to create
• Develop, support, and troubleshoot microservices using Java and Spring Boot 3
• Build and consume RESTful APIs, adhering to best practices and standards
• Collaborate with the DevOps team to deploy applications in Kubernetes environments
• Leverage observability tools for application monitoring and logging
• Contribute to building and maintaining event-driven architectures (e.g., using messaging queues)
• Document and expose APIs using tools like Swagger/OpenAPI
• Work with API gateways to manage and secure API traffic
• Implement and support OAuth for secure authentication and authorization
• Learn and adapt to new tools and technologies as needed
• Flexible and adaptable to learning and understanding new technologies
• Highly self-motivated and directed

Required Skills & Experience

1 year of Java Development experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related
Experience with Spring Boot and building RESTful web services
Experience using Git for source control
Familiarity with Kubernetes or container orchestration tools
Understanding of microservices architecture
Exposure to observability platforms (Datadog, Splunk, ELK, etc.)
Basic knowledge of event-driven systems and message brokers (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
Experience with API documentation tools like Swagger/OpenAPI
Understanding of API Gateways and OAuth concepts
They need to have an inquisitive, curious mindset to dive in, go down rabbit holes to track down root cause of issues.
IN OFFICE 3 DAYS PER WEEK - Tues, Weds, Thurs

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
• JavaScript/TypeScript
